The Paradigm: Basic Principles

C. S. Herrman

September 5, 2010

The subject of this paper is the formal explication of what the author terms “paradigmatics”. Unlike the “functions” in his four-part paradigmatic studies, these are eight-part, being the possible kinds of combinations formed from cognates of a binary when a stress is applied to one of the two of each dyad. The examples are from social philosophy, in particular two binaries (individual-person, authority-prerogative) relevant to the author’s variation on the honor-dignity cultural typology.
