Abstract

Identifies the social and demographic background to the Law Commission's 2007 review of the law governing property and financial issues arising when cohabitants separate. Considers the findings from a study carried out by the authors between 2004 and 2006 into the views and experiences of a sample group made up of separating cohabitants involved in disputes about money and property with their former partner, the practitioners acting for them and conveyancers regarding the law governing the acquisition and post-separation disposal of the family home.
