Abstract

This article considers the effects of plain language statutes regulating both private and public law and discusses the problems inherent in both subjective and objective tests for plain language. This article has been cited, among other places, in Peter M. Tiersma, Legal Language (Chicago 1st ed. 1999), and in Peter Butt & Richard Castle, Modern Legal Drafting (Cambridge Univ. 2nd ed. 2006).
