We are making the firm-level corporate governance index used in Aggarwal, Erel, Ferreira and Matos (2010) available. The data covers 23 countries for the period 2004-2008. Non-U.S. firms in the sample account for approximately 71% of world market capitalization excluding the U.S.; and U.S. firms cover 96% of U.S. market capitalization. We use 41 individual attributes to create a composite governance index, GOV41, for each company. The data file contains the variables: year, country, company name, primary security code, ticker (for U.S. firms), and the firm-level governance index GOV41. The primary security code is an id that matches with Sedol codes for non US firms and Cusip codes for US firms. The Excel data file is available at Aggarwal's website at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.
