Abstract
In this working paper that is a summary of the lecture I gave at the CNR in Rome in 1999 I attempt to claim that metaphors may be seen as acts similar to assertions, promises, criticisms, or lying. In some respect my proposal hints at viewing metaphor as a special kind of speech acts (I metaphor that X…).
