Abstract

This report is one of two commissioned by HelpAge International (HAI), which investigates the extent, distribution and nature of chronic poverty among older people in South Africa. In response to the terms of reference provided by HAI, the report includes a comprehensive review of existing research, both published and unpublished. In addition to this review, quantitative datasets were examined, and a new database containing information related to 26,918 people, 50 years of age and older was constructed.
