Abstract

This is a publication review of Chan PJ and Martin Rogers (eds), Hong Kong Civil Justice Reform Practice Manual (Thomson Reuters 2010). This work streamlines the topics covered in the first edition, whilst incorporating important judicial decisions and a new chapter on mediation. Putting the shortcomings in the mediation chapter and organisation of precedents to one side, it is a challenging book which has achieved its complementary and sui generis aims. It offers timely help for civil litigation practitioners to cope with the additional work involved in an active case management system and manage clients’ expectations. With a clear analysis of the new or amended rules and a good collection of Hong Kong case law concerning the Civil Justice Reform, the book makes a valuable contribution to the study of this subject.
