Abstract

Indiana, the Hoosier State, with its flat fertile farmland and middle-size cities like Kokomo and Fort Wayne is the heart of the Midwest. This article is about a religion deeply rooted in the fabric of its denizens. The religion originates not from scripture or a tablet of tenets, but rather from a state tournament beginning in 1911. This story is about Indiana high school basketball and its contribution to the National Basketball Association. Its rich lore encompasses a plethora of famous names such as Oscar Robertson, Rick Mount, George McGinnis, Steve Alford, Larry Bird, Zack Randolph, Eric Gordon, Mike Conley to Greg Oden.
