Abstract

Computers can generate entire multi-sensory environments that include us as interactive participants. Thus, computers become general participatory systems that participate in their subject matter. Virtual reality is the body of techniques that apply computation to the generation of experientially valid realities. Characterizing any virtual reality is the subjective experience of virtuality. Computers generate the experience of virtuality. Virtuality identifies computers as no longer mere symbol processors. They are reality generators.

Keywords: Virtuality, virtual reality, participatory systems, reality generators
