Abstract

This paper examines Okeh-Ingol or Olambe child marriage among the Becheve people of northern Cross River State. It was observed that the marriage which was contracted without the consent of the girl-child has serious implication in the life of the girl-child. Her educational attainment is stultified. Some of her human rights are infringed upon. The practice has the capacity of encouraging the spread of HIV/AIDS. The paper points out that this practice which prejudices girl-child schooling and her social and emotional development should be stopped. It made some recommendations on how such practices could be stopped.
