This paper considers the common points as well as the divergences of Simone Weil and Eric Voegelin regarding the inner disease of the 'dark times' which Europe suffers: Voegelin calls it disorder, Weil uprootedness. We shall examine the symptoms of the disease, the recurrence of this disease, the common rejection of Marxism by both authors, the need for order they call for, the remedy which consists in religion versus idolatry, their hope in America and England’s democratic institutions.
