Abstract

Critics of Pope Pius XII argue that he was silent about Jewish suffereing during the Holocaust. To make this argument, they often omit passages or use ellipses to condense the pontiff's words in a misleading manner. In some cases, including John Cornwell's book "Hitler's Pope," the result is nothing less than academic fraud.

Keywords: Catholic Church, Holocaust, Pius XII, Pacelli, Cornwell, ellipses
