Abstract
This book offers a critical analysis of important parts of the Draft Civil Code for Israel. It is based on a symposium that took place in January 2007 at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg.
A codification project involves more than drafting the several chapters of the Code. While not directly addressing – from a comparative European perspective – the fundamental questions confronted by the Drafting Committee, the book’s Israeli and European contributions, when read together, disclose and to some extent discuss the importance of these themes. Accordingly, this review addresses the contributions included in the book (II), the fundamental problems of a general character addressed indirectly (III), and, finally, offers an evaluation (IV).
