Abstract

This paper offers an initial report based on two years of data collected through the Blogosphere Authority Index. A monthly ranking system for the elite political blogosphere, the BAI provides a monthly snapshot of changing traffic, hyperlink, and community activity patterns among major blogs. The paper covers four main themes: overall system stability, left-right comparative rankings, changes in blog architecture, and overall blog professionalization. The paper ends by discussing existing limitations of the dataset and offering preliminary ideas for BAI 2.0, an updated version of the tracking system planned for late 2011.
