Abstract

A British lesbian couple’s petition to have their Canadian marriage recognised as a marriage in England has prompted interesting discussions about the current status and meaning of marriage, but reinforces conservative ideas about the primacy of marriage over all other relationships and may lead to renewed disadvantage for other family forms.
