Abstract

First this paper provides a selective survey and synthesis of recent debates in financial economics concerning micro-finance institutions sustainability. Secondly, it put them into perspective, suggesting conciliation of these two conceptions and showing they are two steps of the development of micro-finance. Poverty alleviation among financially and socially excluded can only be achieved by focusing on links between these two conceptions.
