Abstract

This article traces some of the changes in families, and in the roles of women and children within families, over the last 125 years. Observing the many changes in family law that have come about, particularly in recent years, the article suggests some of the ways in which family law needs to develop in order to meet both the needs of the modern family and also the requirements and challenges of the European Convention.
