Abstract

In 2008, the European Union founded the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT). Its aim is to foster innovation and competitiveness in Europe by means of networked innovation. EIT ICT Labs are a legal entity within EIT focusing on innovation coming from Information and Communication Technologies. In order to identify promising areas for innovation, a dedicated Foresight activity has been initiated within EIT ICT Labs. Based on best practices in Foresight, taking into account known barriers to Foresight and Open Innovation, the EIT Innovation Radar has been designed as a Foresight instrument matching the specific needs of the organization. This paper takes the example of EIT ICT Labs as an up-and-running Open Innovation network and describes a first attempt on designing a Foresight activity matching the specific needs of such an organization.
