Why has little or no progress or innovation occurred in U.S. environmental law at the federal level since the 1990's? This provocative piece argues that the primary reason is that environmentalists have become the exclusive property of the Democratic party. The current situation is contrasted with the more productive period from the 1970's thru the 1990's when Republicans and Democrats competed for support from environmentalists.
