Strategic Foresight: An Exercise

The exercise asks students to perform a strategic analysis of the consulting industry in order to identify untapped strategic opportunities.
Learning Objective: The purpose is to show that we tend to hold similar mental categories of known industries, which lead to the identification of similar strategic opportunities. Taking this logic to the extreme, if all strategic leaders in a given industry think about the world in the same way, they will all identify the same strategic opportunities. That is why re-categorizing the industry is crucial to identify untapped superior positions.
