Abstract
This essay introduces a symposium held at the University of Kansas School of Law in 1996. The symposium focused on federalism and in particular three broad aspects of that concept: federalism and history, federalism and the political process, and federalism and theory. Participants in the symposium included professors Martin Flaherty, Robert Kaczorowski, Nelson Lund, Elizabeth Garrett, Tom Stacy, Evan Caminker, Larry Kramer, Richard Levy, and Erwin Chemerinsky, as well as federal judge Patrick Higginbotham.
