Abstract

Rapid technological development, a change of paradigm in the production and consumption of creative works and globalization have brought about profound changes in the laws protecting the creation and creators of intellectual property. These changes have mostly favored right holders and have resulted in an imbalance between the right holders' interests, on one hand, and the public's interests, on the other. Restoring the balance of creators' rights is a topic of great concern to many policy makers and scholars on both sides of the Atlantic. Christophe Geiger's book, Droit d'auteur et droit du public a l'information - Approche de droit compare (Author's Right and the Public's Right to Receive Information - A Comparative Approach), provides an interesting and original look at this issue from the continental European perspective. Ultimately, his book can be viewed as a plea to "liberate" author's right law from the obsolete rigidity that inheres in closed-catalog limitations and exceptions that are too inflexible to keep pace with rapid, contemporary developments.
