Abstract

This article presents an empirical study of the role of law in foreign investment activities in China, by comparing the two questionnaire surveys done in 2008 and 2001 respectively. It demonstrates that law has played a significant role in China’s success in attracting foreign investment. However, Chinese FDI legal system is yet to become a fully “effective” system despite noticeable improvements in the first decade of the 21st century.
