Abstract

Once upon a time there was an idea called international law. It was a flexible, open and inclusive idea. It was applied to actions between governments, as well as to actions by indigenous peoples, corporations, individuals, and communities. It was an idea that acknowledged the possibility of many types of international law forming an international legal system and included some idea of an ‘international community’.
