Abstract

Attempts have been made to analyze the performance characteristics of immobilized enzyme Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) bioreactors that employ nanosilica particles as support media. The performance of such reactors has been mathematically analyzed considering dispersed flow of fine suspension of nanoparticles in substrate solution through vertical reactor column. The computed results have been successfully verified by comparing with elaborate experimental data which showed a maximum deviation of ± 15%. The specific advantages of these types of bioreactors in providing augmented process efficiency have also been highlighted.
