Abstract

The Open Systems approach has not been developed and applied as much as it could in project management. This study will use the comparison between two embedded, multiple cases, each using either a Closed or an Open Systems approach, in order to discover whether: a) an Open Systems approach is useful to the management of innovation projects and b) if it is useful, then how it is practiced and what the outcomes are. The results will shed light on the argument for the further development and specification of an Open Systems generic model. The conclusions will provide recommendation towards the development of such a model.

Keywords: open systems, innovation project management
