Abstract

With today’s digital media abundance, the realization of media diversity as a policy goal depends more than ever on the choices users make, or rather: the tools that they use to make these choices. Search intermediaries, such as search engines, Electronic Programme Guides or social recommendation tools, assist users in making media choices. The important question for media law and policy that this article examines is: can search intermediaries help people to choose diverse?

Keywords: Media diversity, search engines, Electronic Programme Guides, serendipity, personalisation
