Abstract

This spring, the Kansas Legislature will consider the most significant changes in criminal law in a generation. The Kansas Sentencing Commission, created in 1989, will submit its proposed guidelines to the legislature. If enacted, the guidelines will fundamentally alter our state's sentencing philosophy, sentencing lengths, and sentencing procedures. This article examines the draft of the preliminary recommendations of the Sentencing Commission.
