The present work aims to provide a clinical and radiological analysis of the advantages presented by the retreatment of iatrogenic lesions (nonhomogeneous and incomplete root canal filling) which generated chronical apical lesions.
The patients came to the Odontotherapy-Endodontics Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Craiova with chronical apical lesions radiologically observed. These lesions were generated by incorrect endodontic treatments. The decision is taken to choose endodontic retreatment abiding very strictly by the protocol therapy. The patients are followed-up for a period of time starting from six months up to two years.
The permeability of root canals leading to the apex, the correct estimation of the working length and the application of a strict chemomechanical treatment lead to the healing of chronical apical lesions in time.
The endodontic retreatment provides the patients with a chance to save the roots of the teeth which underwent incorrect endodontic treatments and which should otherwise be removed.
