Abstract

Upon reviewing the case of Gerald Francis Gault, the Supreme Court issued a landmark decision that recognized the due process rights of minors by applying the provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment and the Bill of Rights to juveniles. This collection of articles helps provide a context for understanding the significance of the Gault decision. They provide an historical perspective that allows us to see the progression of recognizing children’s rights, but then they also identify the limitations of what the Supreme Court determined when issuing the Gault decision.
