Abstract

The battle for Catalan secession in Spain is likely to attract much attention in the coming years. Beyond simple reconstruction or interpretation of particular events, this analysis empowers game theory for empirical purposes to generate new testable and falsifiable predictions about the world. If the strategies, strategic rationality, and payoffs assumed throughout this essay are correct, then my findings should accurately predict the outcome.

Keywords: secessionism, Catalonia, game theory, Spain, federalism
