Abstract

Review of “Surviving Against the Odds: Village Industry in Indonesia”, the post-humously published book by the late mother of President Barack Obama, S. Ann Dunham. The book is based on Dunham's dissertation fieldwork in Central Java, mostly carried out in the mid-1980s.
