Chronological Profile of Urban Cooperative Banking in India

Abstract

The urban cooperative sector has undergone lot of changes from the inception. The changes that have taken place in UCBs have been for more significant and more radical than others. It is true that several committees and commissions have to evaluate the performance of the UCBs from time to time and suggested several measures for strengthening them. The sharp changes in the policy environment of both State and Central Governments concerning the operations of urban banking system have direct and indirect implications for the performance of UCBs. But these official efforts are not available in a crystal manner for ready reference. So there is a need for the arrangement of various developments in UCBs from its inception could be presented in a comprehensive manner which is useful to researchers, professionals and other related persons. Hence, an attempt is made in this article to list out the changes in the UCBs as chronological-wise
