Abstract

Traffic congestion are potential stressful because of the delay impose and hostility they sometime provoke especially during the rush hours (6:00AM-9:30AM and 4:30PM-9:00PM). It is in this line that this study investigates the experience of workers in traffic congestion and their coping strategies in Lagos, Nigeria. To generate data for the research, a total sample of 200 respondents were selected through accidental sampling method from various departments from the two organizations under study. Data was collected through the use of quantitative and qualitative method. It was discovered that the experience of workers in traffic congestion resulted to frustration, stress depression, query, moodiness and high fuel consumption. The finding of this study also shows that despite the daily experience of workers with traffic congestion, majority of the workers still perform moderately and relatively high. According to the finding the mostly used coping strategies employed were: the use of motor cycle and leaving home early.
