Abstract

This chapter addresses legal issues affecting data structures and data exchange standards for bioinformatics research and applications. Issues covered include antitrust considerations for standards developers, copyright in standards documents and patents that may be obtained on standardized technologies. A template policy for bioinformatics standards developers is included in the Appendix.
