Abstract

While the Commission’s investigation into Google’s behavior is ongoing, the question has emerged whether established European competition law principles and instruments are fit to address the challenges posed by the specific characteristics of the New Economy industries on competition analyses.

This thesis has researched the challenges that arise when conducting antitrust analyses involving the market for search engines as part of the New Economy industry and the implications for the competition case against Google. The aim of this thesis was to establish how the European Commission should incorporate the dynamic considerations in its analyses when assessing Google’s position.
