When Thomas E. Brennan, founder and president of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, decided to publish his first decade of annual reports, I was invited to write the Foreword. Through the reports one can relive the 1980’s at Cooley, from a remembrance of things past (Collegiate Oratory Contests, Cooley Lawyers Credit Union), to new developments (air conditioning, the Law Review), never-ending sagas (ABA inspection conflicts, building renovations), and periodic highs and lows (in esteem, student enrollment, and bar pass rates). Collectively the presidential reports provide the closest thing to an autobiography of the school’s formative years.
