Abstract

This brief monograph, prepared for the 15th anniversary of the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) in 2010, gives an overview of how AustLII operates and what it accomplished in its first 15 years. It is structured as follows: (i) Fundamentals: Mission; Scope; Access statistics; Governance and funding; Staff and equipment (ii) AustLII’s Australian content - Case Law: Scope and currency of current case law; Historical coverage; Citation practices; Legislation; Treaties and other international agreements; Legal scholarship (iii) AustLII’s Citator (LawCite) (iv) AustLII’s international projects - Assisting development of new LIIs; Multi-country free access law portals: WorldLII, CommonLII, AsianLII; Searching databases in Asian languages; The International Law Library on WorldLII; The WorldLII Catalog.
