Abstract

There is a great deal of interest in the Talmud today, especially in much of Asia. South Koreans, in particular, have developed a fascination with the Talmud and have made it part of their curriculum. Many Korean homes have a version of the Talmud and call it the “Light of Knowledge.” The Talmud is also popular in China; there is a belief that it can give one an edge in conducting business and that it sharpens the mind. There is no question that the Talmud is relevant today and has much to teach us. The author has collected 100 pages of sayings from the Talmud. These sayings cover everything from acquiring wisdom to acquiring wealth to the importance of traits such as humility and compassion.

Keywords: Talmud, Torah, sayings of the Talmud, Avot, ethics of the Talmud.
