Abstract

The present paper analyses the concepts of leader and leadership applied at the level of communities, attempting to identify those key features of leadership that community leaders should master and develop in order to bring value added to the communities in which they carry out their activity. The study starts from the premises that leadership is a key factor for addressing critical issues at the level of communities, whose need of professional leaders is increasing in a more and more globalized world. The collaboration and mutual support relationships built among community leaders, local authorities, governmental, non-governmental organizations and the population have as an ultimate purpose the achievement of the stakeholders’ goals; it is the community leaders’ task to make the process smooth and effective.
