Bandas Criminales En Colombia: ¿Amenaza a La Seguridad Regional? (Criminal Gangs: A Threat to Regional Security?)

Abstract

Spanish Abstract: Las Bacrim se han convertido en uno de los mayores generadores de violencia en Colombia. La emergencia de este fenómeno criminal en varias regiones del país se explica no solo a partir de un análisis de los problemas internos (pobreza, corrupción, grupos armados) sino también de la dimensión y el alcance internacional de estos grupos. Si bien resulta difícil establecer con contundencia la amenaza que representan estos grupos para la región, una mirada inicial hacia los mercados internacionales en los cuales participan los delitos en los que incurren en otros países y el impacto de estos delitos en los contextos donde suceden, permite dar un paso importante para entender la naturaleza y estado actual del crimen organizado transnacional y visualizar la labor pendiente de los Estados para combatir simultáneamente a este tipo de actores (las Bacrim) y al fenómeno que representan (crimen organizado).

English Abstract: Criminal Gangs (Bacrim) have become one of the most important sources of violence in Colombia. The emergence of this criminal phenomena in various regions of the country is explained not only with an analysis of internal issues (poverty, corruption, armed groups) but also by the dimension and international reach of these groups. Even though it is difficult to establish with certainty the threat that these groups represent within the region, an initial approximation to the international markets in which they participate, the crimes they commit in other countries and the impact of those crimes within the context in which they occur, enables an important first step towards understanding the nature and present state of transnational organized crime and, towards visualizing the state’s pending actions in confronting simultaneously actors such as Bacrim and the phenomena they represent (organized crime).
