Abstract

The article looks at how telecommunications policy origins and developments as well as its dependance on the Single Market framework influenced the Internet. The article starts with a brief overview of EU policymaking in the area of telecommunications (Part I), attempts to explain the Single Market background of EU Internet regulation (Part II) and looks at present telecommunications policy in its potential for the future (Part III). The aim is to clarify the origins of EU telecommunications policy in order to explain its more recent transformations.
