Abstract

Health systems are facing pressures that were hard to imagine a few decades ago when most national systems were delineated. Of all the challenging situations governments will meet in the future, two of the most difficult are the funding of health care and improvement of health outcomes. Many countries in the world have embraced health reforms to cope with this situation. The American Continent is very active in this effort. From Canada to Chile, countries are reforming their health care systems, or important health reforms have been proposed. Nowhere is the status quo expected to be enough to face the future.
