Abstract

The study of functional dimensions of social capital suggests that an improved social capital can act as a mechanism to promote development and enhance urban qualities; where its erosion and loss could be an obstacle to social development. This research aims to study the effect of permeability as an urban quality on social capital. In this regards, the concepts of social capital and permeability are briefly dealt with and then the evaluation of the quality of permeability as well as its sub-qualities and the social capital based on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique are presented in forms of tables and figures. Based on the analytic review of the results from the study, the existence of a dual relationship between the quality of permeability and social capital was proved. In places located on the main streets and with the passing as main function (not accessibility), there is an inverse relation between permeability and social capital and in places within the context there seems to be a direct relationship between the quality of permeability and the social capital. It was also indicated that the relationships between the urban qualities and social capital are nonlinear.
