Abstract

Restructuring policies in the early 1980s in Turkey affected the insurance industry. Liberalization and reregulation attempt reshaped the structure of the sector. The oligopolistic market structure was broken out, new corporations emerged, employment increased and new instruments, services were introduced. Price competition highly increased. The purpose of this paper is to figure out efficiency in the industry. The data used in our study are drawn from the publication of the Governmental Insurance Supervisory Committee. Our data base consists only life insurance corporations.
