Abstract

"Orange is the New Black" is a new series currently in its second season on Netflix that follows the more or less true to life story of Piper, a white middle class college educated bisexual woman. Although the series is to be commended for humanizing insiders, there is a troubling tendency its negotiation of gender and race, such that the narcissistic white gaze is largely left unchallenged.
