Abstract

This chapter argues that discourses of whiteness permeate the It Gets Better Project from its message, to its cast of official commentators that communicate that message. Consequently the project is also thereby communicating a message to queer youth of colour about their worth or lack thereof, within larger discussions of vulnerability and victimhood, escapism and homonormativity.
