Learning a new language makes a positive difference in the employability of a person both directly and indirectly.
Globalization of the Indian economy expanded the scope of using the newly acquired languages. Due to growing economic relations between India and other countries of the world, the knowledge of a foreign language gives a person an edge over competitors in the job market.
The addition of proficiency in a foreign language to the academic qualifications increases the employment prospects of a person in a number of fields.
Learning a new language also enhances the employability of a person in an indirect way.
Learning a new language gives a person a chance to get to know a new culture, to understand that part of the world better, which has been till now been inaccessible to him. This brings in a positive change in the personality and improves the chances of getting a better job.
Another advantage of learning a new language is that it enables one to better understand the structure of the languages which have already been learnt.
There are however some limitations. In order to enhance employability by learning a foreign language, one needs to put in a lot of consistent efforts, because language learning is a pain-staking task and requires high level of concentration and a lot of hard work.
The absence of the exposure to the target language needs to be compensated by regular practice, which alone can help the learner to retain whatever has been learnt.
