Abstract

Alternate Reality Gaming is an emerging game genre that blurs the lines between reality and fiction by conveying a hybrid gaming experience through online and offline mechanisms. Primarily developed from and for the Internet, these games blend online and offline gameplay such that they create playing fields in everyday spaces. Accordingly, they are considered to be a form of pervasive play. The genre is famous for its mantra "This Is Not a Game."
