In Out of the Shadows, Into the Streets! MIT professor Sasha Costanza-Chock provides a richly detailed account of transmedia organizing in the immigrant rights movement, from the historic marches of 2006 to the recent wave of mobilization against the ballooning detention and deportation system. Despite the current spotlight on digital media, he finds, savvy activists leverage visibility across the changing media ecology, and employ cross-platform, participatory, action-linked strategies that are, in the best cases, accountable to their communities. The revolution will be tweeted, but tweets alone do not the revolution make.
